Opposite to what most people think, fluoride is not a natural substance, but a by-product of the aluminum and fluorine gas used by nuclear industries. According to the Merck Index, the basic use of fluoride is as a cockroach and rat poison and it is a known carcinogen. However, in the 50s, the FDA was somehow convinced that this poison can protect our teeth.
Fluoride Is Not Good for You!
According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment in California, there are numerous negative effects caused by fluoride consumption. They released this information in a document known as Evidence on the Carcinogenity of Fluoride and its Salts.
Moreover, the report also indicates that there are a variety of evidence pointing out that fluoride is incorporated into the bones where it is capable of stimulating cell division of osteoblasts. Also, according to the report, fluoride is known to encourage genetic changes that can cause malignant transformation and cellular immune response which increases the chance of osteosarcomas.
What Do Other Studies Show?
Several studies conducted by Dr. Dean Burk, former head of the Cytochemistry Section at the National Cancer Institute have also pointed out the relation between fluoride and cancer. This being said, his 1977 research indicates that the ingestion of fluoride caused a growth of the thyroid follicular cell tumors in mice.
A paper written by Dr. Lita Lee explains that analysis of results in rats pointed out that animals who were given fluoridated water had an increase in tumors and cancers in oral squamous cells, a rare form of bone cancer, as well as an increase in the thyroid follicular cell tumors.
